Around the World in 80 Plates: France
Like the reality cooking show, I will be spending a bit more time in France than some places. It is one of those countries that is synonymous with great food. I decided to start with crêpes since I knew my little man would love them too. I had tried the Ginger Pear Crêpes from Vegan Sandwiches Save the Day! back during testing and fell in love so I knew just where to go when I needed a recipe for the crêpes. I decided to change up the fillings since the ones in the book are more dessert like so I filled them with a combination of homemade strawberry jam and homemade peach jam (both from Canning for a New Generation) and drizzled it with some of Miyoko's yogurt from Artisan Vegan Cheese. I slightly sweetened the yogurt with some powdered sugar since it is not sweetened at all when you make it. Mac prefered his with just jam but I really loved the extra creaminess and tang that the yogurt was bringing to the party. A little sprinkle of powdered sugar on top for that fancy touch and hey the kid (and me, alright!) likes a little sugar on top!

What pretty crepes! I like that you involved so many different cookbooks in one venture! It sounds like a wonderful combo of sweet, tangy, and tart flavors! I bought a crepe pan recently, but I still haven't tried out my crepe making skills. It seems fairly daunting! Did it take you a while to learn the hang of it, or was it easy to master?
ReplyDeleteI don't even have a crepe pan but I really want one now! Haha! I have been using the opposite of one really, it is a high sided non stick frying pan I have and it seems to work well. Keep the pan well sprayed with spray oil and that helps. The ones from Vegan Sandwiches Save the Day! are really easy to work with too. I was amazing Mac by flipping them up in the air to turn them after a few! Let me know if you try them!
DeleteThose are some fine looking crepes! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteVegan MoFo always convinces me I really need some cookbook or other, and this year I think it's going to be Vegan Artisan Cheeses.
It really is an amazing book! I highly recommend it!
DeleteYour crepes turned out great! I've always been too nervous about making them, I just don't see that scenario ending well.
ReplyDeleteThey are really forgiving...this recipe is at least!
DeleteI used to make my crepes in a regular pan. I had an opportunity to use someone's crepe maker. They were so much thinner and incredible. If you get a chance to try one, you'll be sold!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm bugging my mom to buy me a crepe pan for Christmas! Haha!
